Own builds, and the odd subcontract
The business is a builder working across Waikato and Bay of Plenty. Most of the work is its own: residential jobs it finds, quotes and runs itself.
Sometimes it takes a subcontract from a group home builder, doing the build work on one of that company’s houses. That work is invoiced to the group builder, and the group builder pays on the 20th of the month after.
On their own jobs they set the terms. On the group builder’s jobs, the money comes on its date, however early in the month the work was done.
When the 20th is a long way off
A subcontract finished early in the month isn’t paid until the 20th of the next. In between, the materials for the next job and the bills on their own builds don’t wait.
When they signed up in October 2022, the owner told the FundTap team the group builder’s 20th caught them out from time to time.
It’s not every subcontract. It’s the one that lands when their own jobs have bills due and the 20th is most of a month away.
Funding the invoice that couldn’t wait
They signed up in October 2022 and connected Xero, then went a good while without funding anything, at no cost. In June 2024 an invoice came along that couldn’t wait for the 20th, and they funded it.
They saw the fee first, then decided. Their customer paid the business on the usual date, and FundTap stayed out of it.
Their own jobs kept moving
That’s the job the funding does here: it brings the money forward to when the bills land, instead of the 20th, so their own jobs keep moving.
January 2025 was the busiest month, with two invoices funded. Eight have been funded in all since June 2024, five in 2024 and three in 2025.
The last invoice they funded was in February 2025. The stretch since has cost them nothing, and the account is ready for the next subcontract that lands at the wrong time of the month.
In a public review, the owner described the FundTap team as helpful and simple to work with, and said it got their cashflow moving.
