Framing to cladding on new builds
The business does residential carpentry around Auckland: framing through to cladding on new builds, plus timber retaining walls and the odd reclad. It’s a young business, in its first year of trading.
The work came through a site manager the owner knew, and it has spread from there. The site managers on that first job have other projects, and so do their builders. The owner now bills a handful of builders, and the work keeps coming.
A builder pays when the invoice falls due, and on a new build that can mean the end of the month.
“...from the framing to the cladding for the new builds. I also do the timber retaining wall, I also do recladding jobs...”
From a call with the FundTap team, April 2026
Waiting on the builder’s month end
On a new build, the framing and cladding go up long before the builder’s invoice is due. The invoice the owner wanted to fund wasn’t due until the end of the month.
For a business in its first year of trading, that’s a long time to carry finished work. The job is done and the next one is waiting, and the money for the last one is weeks away.
Funding an invoice
The owner signed up in April 2026 with that invoice ready to fund. The owner asked the FundTap team to set the cost out in writing before deciding.
The fee was set out before they committed, with no ongoing fees and nothing to pay on invoices they don’t fund. They funded the invoice that month, and the builder paid it to the business when it fell due.
On to the next site
With that invoice funded, the business didn’t have to wait for the builder’s month end to get on with the next job. It’s the one invoice they’ve funded so far.
The work has kept growing from that first site, with more builders and more projects coming through the same site managers.
In July 2026 they connected Xero, so the next builder’s invoice is already there to pick if it’s needed. The invoices they don’t fund cost them nothing.
“...I actually have multiple clients, more and more clients now from the first job, like, you know, from the site manager, they all have other projects... So I think the work is keep on coming.”
