Lifts done, machines hired out
The business runs a range of cranes around Wellington, including truck-mounted ones. Some days its own people do the lift. Other days a machine goes out on hire to another company’s job.
Either way, the invoice goes out once the work is done, and the terms are the 20th of the month after.
The costs don’t wait for the 20th. Wages, fuel and the upkeep on the machines are paid as they happen.
Running costs ahead of the invoices
The business had a couple of slower months. Then the jobs started coming in again, and with them the cost of doing them.
The invoices for that work wouldn’t be paid until the 20th of the month after. Some of them hadn’t even been raised yet.
At sign-up, the owner told the FundTap team work was picking up after a slow patch, with running costs due before the next 20th.
“I’m just about to do all my invoicing now for the month.”
From a call with the FundTap team, April 2026
Funding the month’s lift invoices
Their broker introduced them to FundTap, and they signed up in April 2026 and connected Xero.
Once the month’s invoices had gone out, they funded the first one in May 2026. The owner picks which invoice to fund and sees the fee before committing. The customer on that job still pays the business directly on the 20th.
Saying yes as the work picked up
With the first invoice funded, the pick-up could go ahead: wages paid, machines fuelled, the next lift taken on without waiting for last month’s money.
June 2026 was the busiest month so far, with two invoices funded, and another followed in July 2026.
When a bill lands first
Four invoices have been funded since May 2026. The rest run through to the 20th untouched, and nothing is charged on those.
A funded invoice is for the moment a bill lands before the lift work has paid. The quieter stretches cost nothing.
