Retainers paid in a fortnight
The agency does digital marketing for other businesses. Part of the work is on retainer, invoiced and paid about a fortnight later.
The rest is project work, including white-label projects delivered under another agency’s name. A project is invoiced as a piece of work in its own right, and the terms on it run longer than the retainers.
Terms the owner didn’t like
The retainers set the rhythm of the business. A fortnight is easy to plan around. A project invoice on longer terms is not: the work is finished and billed, and then it waits on the client’s terms.
When they signed up in November 2023, the owner told the FundTap team they had applied because the project work came on terms longer than they liked.
Funding the project invoices
They signed up in November 2023 and funded four invoices in that first month.
The owner picks the invoice, sees the fee before committing, and the client pays the agency on the terms they agreed. There are no ongoing fees: the agency pays only on the invoices it funds.
Taking the white-label work on
With a project invoice funded, the project pays the agency on much the same rhythm as its retainers. The terms that come with white-label work matter less, so the agency can say yes to a project on the strength of the work, not the terms.
They funded 46 invoices in 2024 and 34 in 2025. March 2025 was the busiest month, with 17 funded.
Ready for the next project
Nothing has been funded since April 2025, and that has cost the agency nothing. The next time a project invoice goes out on terms the owner would rather not carry, it can be funded, and the retainers carry on as they are.
