Built for the mines
The business designs and manufactures products for mining companies, from its base in Otago and Southland. The work is built to order, and some of its customers are large companies.
Its terms are half up front, with the balance invoiced when the finished product ships. The up-front half gets the build started. The balance is what the business waits on.
Half now, the rest much later
When they signed up in February 2024, one of the directors told the FundTap team that many customers had moved to paying at the end of the following month. Some were pushing out to close to two months.
On a built-to-order product the balance is a big share of the price, and the materials and the hours that went into it were paid for during the build. The longer the customers stretch, the longer the business carries that.
In February 2024, the business manager told the FundTap team a month of invoicing was about to go out.
Funding the balance invoices
They signed up in February 2024 and funded their first two invoices in March 2024. The business chooses which invoices to fund and sees the fee before committing. The mining companies pay it direct, on the terms they’ve agreed.
Their funding limit was raised in June 2026.
Building the next order
With the balance on a finished product funded, the money is in while the customer works through its terms. The finish of one order doesn’t have to wait on the customer before the next build is paid for.
They funded 24 invoices in 2024, 34 in 2025 and 19 in 2026 to September. It has never been many at once: seven in March 2025 was the most in a month.
