Freight arranged, paid next month
The business is a freight and logistics broker at the top of the South Island. It started small, arranging loads and the trucks to carry them for customers who pay on the 20th of the month after the invoice.
It’s the usual arrangement in the industry, and it means a load moved at the start of a month isn’t paid until the 20th of the one after.
Bigger contracts, bigger costs
As the contracts grew, so did everything it cost to deliver them, and those costs landed well before the customers paid.
When they signed up in February 2023, the owner told the FundTap team the business had started small, was picking up some significant contracts, and expected revenue to grow significantly over the months ahead. The owner also explained that the same routes kept coming up, and the plan was to hire or buy a truck to run them.
A truck of their own would push the costs up quickly, and the customers’ terms wouldn’t move to suit.
Set up well ahead of time
They signed up with FundTap in February 2023 and connected Xero, then didn’t fund anything until December 2025. In the meantime the account cost them nothing.
That December they funded their first two invoices. The owner picks which invoice to fund and sees the fee before committing, and the customer pays the business on the 20th as the terms say.
They funded three more early in 2026, and in February 2026 their funding limit was raised.
The costs covered to the 20th
With an invoice funded, the costs of a bigger contract are covered while the customer takes until the 20th to pay. The money for the work still arrives on the contract’s terms, and the business isn’t waiting on it to take on the next job.
Nothing has been funded since February 2026, and the account costs nothing to keep.
