Building jobs and reinstatement work
The business is a general building and civil construction contractor in Melbourne. It does private building work, and it picks up reinstatement jobs from a contractor. That means putting the ground and surfaces back once the civil work underneath is done.
Reinstatement is the last stage of someone else’s project. Once the civil work is finished, the business comes in, makes good, and moves on to the next site.
The new work came with new terms. The contractor pays at the end of the month, whichever week the job was done.
Paid when the month closes
A reinstatement job finished in the first week of the month isn’t paid until the month is over. The materials and the labour are paid for as the job goes.
When they signed up in October 2024, the owner told the FundTap team the new work paid at the end of the month, and some of that money was needed before then.
That’s the whole problem with month-end terms on a new line of work. The job is done, the invoice is out, and the calendar decides when the money lands. With private jobs running too, that’s a long time to carry the new work.
Funding the month-end invoice
They signed up in October 2024 and funded one invoice that month, the one waiting on month end. The fee was on screen before they committed, and the contractor paid the business at month end as agreed.
Money with the job, not the month
That changed the timing. The money for a finished job came in on the business’s timing, not the contractor’s month end, and the business could get on with the next one.
In December 2024 they funded two more invoices, their busiest month, and their funding limit was raised the same month. Three invoices in all, funded when the end of the month sat too far off.
On hand for the next one
Nothing has been funded through 2025 or 2026 so far, and with no invoice funded there’s no fee to pay. The account is there for the next invoice that lands at the wrong end of the month.
The timeline
- October 2024 Signed up with reinstatement work paying at month end, and funded their first invoice.
- December 2024 Funded two more invoices, their busiest month so far.
- December 2024 Their funding limit was raised.
In numbers
- 3 invoices funded since October 2024, all before the end of that year
- 2 invoices funded in December 2024, the busiest month
- 1 increase to their funding limit, in December 2024
