Terms that vary by client
The firm does management consulting and training for business clients in regional New South Wales. Each engagement is invoiced on the client’s terms, and those vary: generally somewhere between a fortnight and a month from the date of the invoice.
Behind each piece of work are the firm’s own suppliers, due on their own terms rather than the client’s.
A new procurement system
Then one of the firm’s clients changed its procurement system. The new system offers one set of terms: payment two months after the end of the month the invoice went in. Work finished early in a month waits even longer than that.
When they signed up in October 2024, the owner explained to the FundTap team that the client’s new procurement system only offered terms of two months from the end of the month, and the firm needed its money sooner than that to pay its suppliers.
The firm took the terms. The suppliers still needed paying on theirs.
Funding the invoices on long terms
They signed up in October 2024 and funded two invoices that first month. From there the owner picks the invoices to fund as the work comes in, and sees the fee on each before committing. The clients pay the firm on their own terms, the new procurement system included.
Suppliers paid on their terms
With the invoice to that client funded, the firm’s suppliers get paid on their terms rather than the client’s. The procurement system can set whatever terms it likes, and the firm keeps doing the work.
The work has grown since. They funded 29 invoices in 2025 and 36 in 2026 to September, and their funding limit has been raised four times, the latest in April 2026. May 2026 was the busiest month, with seven invoices funded.
The firm pays only on the invoices it chooses to fund, and nothing otherwise.
