Houses on the go and apartment work
The business paints houses around Auckland, with apartment work alongside.
It’s a young business, and a busy one, with a lot of houses on the go at once and a big apartment job alongside them.
The bigger jobs are invoiced as they finish and paid on the 20th of the month after. A house finished early in the month waits the longest for its money.
Painters and paint before the 20th
With that many houses running at once, the costs don’t line up with the money. The painters are paid as they work, the paint and the gear are bought house by house, and the invoices wait for the 20th.
The apartment work made the gap wider: bigger invoices, and the same wait for the 20th.
At sign-up in September 2023, the owner told the FundTap team they needed to bring the money forward on the big jobs.
“I have completed my current painting projects, and the outstanding payments are due to be received...”
From an email to the FundTap team, September 2026
Bringing the big invoices forward
They signed up in September 2023 and funded three invoices in their first month.
The owner picks which invoice to bring forward and sees the fee before committing. The customer still pays the business directly on the 20th, as the invoice says.
Saying yes to the next house
With the big invoices brought forward, the painters could start the next house while the last one’s invoice sat waiting on the 20th. That’s how a painting business keeps a lot of houses going at once.
The funding limit was raised in March 2024 and again in May 2024 as the jobs grew. In July 2024, the owner asked the FundTap team for a higher funding limit. It went up again that month, their busiest so far with five invoices funded.
More jobs lined up
Since September 2023 the business has funded 77 invoices, with 2025 its biggest year at 27.
In September 2026, the owner mentioned to the FundTap team that there were many more jobs coming. In October 2026 the funding limit was raised again. The invoices they bring forward are the ones that would otherwise hold up the next house; the others are paid on the 20th with nothing charged.
