Roofing for builders and homeowners
The business puts roofs on at the top of the South Island. Its customers are a mix: builders, commercial clients, the companies that manage rental homes, and homeowners.
Homeowners pay when the job’s done. The business customers mostly pay on the 20th of the month after the invoice, with a little variation from one client to the next.
Alongside the roofing, the owner was setting up a related business to make and import flashings of their own.
A shipment waiting in customs
Roofing is paid for as it goes. The crew, the iron and the scaffold cost money before the invoice goes out, and the builder’s money is weeks away.
When they signed up in May 2024, the owner explained to the FundTap team that a shipment of the new flashing product was sitting in customs. There was a bill to clear before it could be released, and the builders wouldn’t be paying for weeks.
The roofs were done and invoiced. The money for them was still sitting with the builders until the 20th.
Funding the finished roofs
Their broker introduced them to FundTap. They signed up in May 2024 and funded their first invoice that month, with the shipment still in customs.
They pick the invoices to fund, and the fee shows before they commit. One client pays on a fixed date late in the month under its contract, and its invoices are the ones that make sense to fund.
Some invoices they’ve funded in part and topped up later. The builders, the managers and that client all still pay the business directly, on their own dates.
“This client only pays on the 28th of the month as per their contract.”

Flashings of their own
The shipment was the start of a roofing business with its own flashings line. Clearing it without waiting on the builders is what they signed up for.
When a bill lands before the 20th, the owner funds an invoice for a roof that’s already on. The other invoices run to their usual dates.
The jobs have kept coming. Their funding limit has been raised three times, in February 2025, March 2026 and July 2026, to keep pace.
Only when a bill lands first
Nothing gets funded unless the owner picks an invoice, and a month with nothing funded costs nothing. They funded three invoices in 2024, 12 in 2025 and 17 in 2026 to September. February 2025 was the busiest month, with four.
The roofing carries on, and the builders still pay on the 20th.
