Trucks and drivers on civil sites
The business hires out tipper trucks with drivers to the civil industry around Auckland. Its customers range from the big civil contractors to local ones.
The terms are the civil industry’s: the contractor pays at the end of the month after the invoice. A truck and driver on site in the first week of a month aren’t paid for until the end of the next one.
The costs run the other way. Fuel is paid for as the trucks burn it, and the drivers are paid as they work.
Growing on the contractors’ terms
The business was growing, and in tipper hire growth is paid for upfront. Each new job means more fuel and more driver hours before any of it is invoiced, let alone paid.
When they signed up in September 2022, the owner told the FundTap team the business was growing, and with the contractors paying at the end of the month after, fuel and wages were being paid a long way ahead of the money for the work.
Their customers pay, on their terms. It’s just that the more work the trucks did, the more fuel and wages sat waiting on the end of the month after.
Funding the civil invoices
They signed up in September 2022, introduced by their broker, and funded their first invoice in March 2023.
They pick the invoice to fund and see the fee before they commit. The contractors keep paying the business on their own terms.
Fuel in the tanks, drivers paid
With an invoice funded, the fuel and the wages for a job are paid from that job, and the contractors’ terms stop deciding how much work the trucks can take on.
The work kept coming. They funded 13 invoices in 2023, 37 in 2024 and 36 in 2025, and their funding limit was raised in March 2024. August 2025 was the busiest month, with eight invoices funded.
Still on the contractors’ terms
They funded four invoices in March 2026, the most recent in the records, and 90 in all since March 2023. Nothing has been funded since March 2026, and there’s been nothing to pay for that.
In a public review, the owner called the service from the FundTap team superb.
