Hardware up front, labour on terms
The business does IT contracting and telco support in regional Queensland. It works for other businesses only, no households.
How it gets paid depends on what it’s selling. Hardware is paid for up front. The time on the tools is usually invoiced on the 1st of the month and paid on the 15th. A new client starts on shorter terms.
The costs of a bigger client
The business was picking up larger clients. A larger client means more hours on the tools, and more of the running costs that go with them, all paid for before the 15th comes round.
When they signed up in April 2023, the owner told the FundTap team the business was picking up larger clients. The owner said they wanted a safety net in place for if and when the running costs landed before the payment did.
It wasn’t needed at the time. The point was to have it there before it was.
Funding the gap to mid-month
They signed up in April 2023. The account then went untouched, and unbilled, until March 2026, when they funded their first invoice.
The owner picks which invoice to fund, and the fee is on the screen before they decide. Their clients still pay the business on the usual date.
Room for the larger clients
A bigger client is worth taking on when the cost of serving them doesn’t have to wait for the 15th. With an invoice funded, the hours already worked cover the running costs in the meantime. The client’s payment arrives when it was always going to.
That’s the backstop the owner wanted at sign-up: there for the moments the 15th is too far off, and untouched the rest of the time.
Nothing to pay until it’s needed
They have funded four invoices since March 2026, the most recent in September 2026. Nothing is charged in the months with nothing funded, and nothing was charged in all the time before the first.
The timeline

Sound like your business?
The bigger client’s work is invoiced on the 1st and paid on the 15th. If the running costs can’t wait that long, fund that invoice. If they can, don’t.
Fund a specific invoice when the timing doesn’t work. Pay nothing when it does.
