Placements paid on the 20th
The business is a recruitment company in Auckland. It places people with client businesses and invoices a fee for each placement.
The clients pay a month from the invoice, or on the 20th of the month after. Either way, the fee for a placement made early in a month is a long way off.
A placement doesn’t come to a schedule. When one lands, the fee is earned, but it’s the client’s terms that decide when it’s paid.
Running costs don’t wait for a fee
The fees arrive when placements and client terms line up. The running costs of the business arrive whether they do or not, and a gap between one placement being paid and the next can land right on top of them.
When they signed up in June 2022, the owners told the FundTap team that the timing of placements and payments could leave the running costs waiting on a client’s payment.
What they wanted, they explained, was a way to bring cashflow forward when the timing called for it.
Pulling an invoice forward
Their accountant referred them to FundTap, and they signed up in June 2022. They didn’t fund anything until September 2023, and the account cost nothing in between.
Since then the owners have picked the placement invoices to pull forward and seen the fee before committing to each one. Their clients pay the business as they would have anyway, on 30 days or the 20th.
Costs covered between placements
With a slow placement invoice funded, the month’s running costs are covered from a fee the business has already earned, not from waiting on a client’s terms. The next placement can be worked on without the last one’s payment date deciding things.
They funded 22 invoices in 2024 and 27 in 2025. September 2025 was the busiest month, with six funded.
Only when the timing calls for it
Plenty of placement invoices never go near FundTap. The owners fund one when its payment date sits badly against the costs of the month, and in 2026 they had funded 20 to September. There’s no charge in the stretches when nothing is funded.
The timeline

- September 2025 The busiest month so far, with six invoices funded.
- September 2026 Funded another placement invoice, the most recent so far.

- 75 invoices funded since September 2023
- 27 invoices funded in 2025, the biggest year
- 6 invoices funded in September 2025, the busiest month
